Tribute To A Very Heroic Dog

Within the past several days in a small town in New Zealand a small Jack Russell Terrier named George defended a group of small children from an attack by two Pit Bulls. While trying to protect these children, the Pit Bulls visciously attacked George resulting in horrific injuries to this brave little hero which led to him having to be put down by the Vet. The two Pit Bulls were also put down as well.

Pit Bull attacks have become an increasing problem here in New Zealand and many other parts of the world. It is high time that some people learned how to care for their pets and realize that dogs should not be left to roam the streets wreaking havoc in some neighborhoods. The same evening I read about this attack, while I was out in the front of my own home, a loose Pitt Bull was running down our street barking, and it was a bit of a worry, having just heard of this incident. Although I am not a believer that dogs should be chained up, I do believe that people should have an adequate area on the outside such as a fenced in section to give a dog a sense of freedom and space and cared for in a manner that would be conducive to the safety and welfare of individuals in the neighborhood and elsewhere.

The finality of this story has touched my heart today when I read that an Ex-Marine from Texas is awarding his Purple Heart Medal which he received during the Vietman War to George posthumously for his valiant efforts to protect this group of young children this past week. It's nice to know that there are good people in the world. For more about the Purple Heart Medal for George click here.

Let's take time to care for our pets in the way they should be cared for!
